In Which I'm Back On (Bumpy) Track

Amfilochia

Route: Athens - not very besidetheseaside - Amfilochia

Athens was great. I did nothing (I'm not supposed to be here until I've been round half of the Greek coast) although between you and me I may have snuck in to the National Archaeological Museum. Wow.

And met up with Remy and Helen (and Little Mikey), Sterios and Natascha, Christina and Yanni and their four adorable kids. (Dominique and Stephen, who were so kind to me in Rome, have five adorable kids. Christina and Yanni -- that's a challenge!)

Remy let me take his picture, which I thought was either brave or foolhardy:

And I then let Remy take my picture, which I thought was probably foolhardy; Remy thought it was just very camp:

The bike, meanwhile, got new shock absorbers -- after the amazing but temporary fix from the great Toni Radić in Split, a general service and a post-Albania wash at Eliofil in the northern suburbs. They're the main Triumph importers for Greece.

Vangelli is a mechanic who knows and loves Triumphs -- and speaks better bike-English than me. Nassos is the boss; unprompted, he approached me when I came to pick the Bonnie up. Having noticed the bike, he'd even come to check out this site (as advertised on the panniers). He was genuinely interested to hear how the bike has performed, as well as asking about various aspects of the trip.

Two genuinely nice men. I'd be very happy to buy my motorbikes from them, and get them serviced there. People of Greece -- beat a path to their door!

And after Athens, I returned on the occasionally besidetheseaside main roads to Amfilochia. Half-an-hour short of Preveza, from where I broke of the trip last week, but that's close enough after a long ride. Amfilochia is smaller and less tourist-oriented and hugs the Amvrakikos Gulf in a rather charming, low key fashion.
