Route: Itea - Delphi
It's all of eight miles to Delphi, through a wide plain of olive groves, then up a nearly vertical cliff on a fantastic road. I wanted to be besidetheseaside last night but if I'd done this last leg, I would have found a charming little pension with a view down said cliff and over said olives to the sea. That still counts in my book (or on my blo-- I mean diary) so I took a room in Delphi village, giving myself lots of time to explore a bit of Ancient Greece.
Here, at 'the navel of the world', the Oracle got high and spoke the wisdom of the Gods to ancient Greeks.
At Machu Picchu, in Peru, I saw the 'hitching post of the sun', where priests interpreted the will and wisdom of the Gods.
Here, a set of temples and treasures were gathered on the saddle of a high hill overlooking a steep valley that disappears beneath the clouds.
Machu Picchu sits on a saddle high above the steep sides of the Urubamba Valley; clouds float far below.

You get the picture. I was lucky enough to visit Machu Picchu with my Pa in 1986 (so long ago the ancient monuments were then only middle-aged). So today, I was thinking about that a lot.
Dad -- you were here in spirit.
This time I bought a guidebook...
