Video Interlude: Carnaval en Tarifa

February 19, 2008 by Mike

... and no, that's not a Mike-style typo.. it may be Carnival in Tarifa to you.. but it's Carneval en Tarifa over here in Spain.

I got roped in to film the frolics. You may notice there's not much footage from the evenings and night. That's because house red, wigglin' and expensive video equipment don't mix. You'll also notice a complete absence of the bike, BesideTheSeasideness and.. unless you make it to the end of the fifth video.. of me.

This, of course, may lead to more of you watching the danged films.. I hope you enjoy.

(nb It was interesting filming, editing, cutting, mixing and uploading so much material in a language I have a pretty thin grasp of. If I've made any howlers, let me know.)

-

Carnevaleando Voy.. Carnevaleando Vengo
A good introduction to what Carnaval means to local people. Good if you speak Spanish with a thick southern accent, that is.. (but I'm really pleased with this one.. and it's already getting really positive feedback in town.)

-

Chirigotas Y Comparsas
A strong and very local tradition (in Cadiz province) of topical, satirical songs. Which I never want to hear again;-) But the editing is supertight on this one.. armed with just one camera, mind..

-

La Final
The third night of song saw the best groups return and winners announced.. eventually.

-

Fiesta Infantil
It's all about the kids, innit.

-

Pasacalles
It's a street thing.

Hell, I'm not used to working.
