Update on Monday 30 October

October 30, 2006 by Mike

Hello everyone

Not that I assume anyone's noticed, but as I've not updated for ten days -- having been pretty consistant before -- this is a very quick note to say everything's OK.

Well, "OK" is relative. I'm sitting out a heavy blizzard in a town called Narva on the Roosian-Estonian border.. but at least I made it into Estonia before the roads clogged up, the hotel's cheap and cheerful and they serve Guinness in the bar. So if I'm stuck here for a couple of days, I won't complain too loud.

Helsinki and St Petersburg have been two of the highlights of the trip. I'll bring the site up to date with what I've been up to since the 17th. Those entries will be backdated so it'll look like they've been there for days. Hope this makes sense. Hope you enjoy them. Hope for warmer weather.

How's this for fast; maps updated even before you've finished writing your latest entry! Enjoy the blizzard – sounds like a luxurious few days off the road to me...

Hey Mike

Guess where I'm going to be in 2 weeks ? St Petersburg. (German Wingsoffer - given as no-one sane will be in North Russia in November, you can fly there for tuppence).

If you have any tips for thing sto see, places to stay (that's better than the one I found which offers "as much vodka as you can drink". They may have to revise their offer after they find out how much vodka I can drink), do pass it on.

Shame you weren't delayed for a fortnight.

Phil - I'll email you separately with some more of my thoughts on Leningrad. Make sure you don't do to the absinthe what you expect to do to the vodka. And remember to ask everyone you meet about Lev Davidovitch.. reactions vary, to say the least. As for getting away.. it's still cold and snowy here so I haven't got very far.

Nick - I'l have that pint of Guinness for you!
